Why professional photos are a must for registered dietitians looking to connect with brands and work with the media.

Move over selfies…it’s time for some professional photos!

We’ve all had excuses for why you have not taken (or updated) professional photos. Do any of these sound familiar:

  • I’ll take those photos when I get an interview, launch a product or publish a book or revamp my website.
  • I can’t afford to take photos now.
  • I don’t have the time to collect photos of myself.
  • I don’t really need professional photos

But you may need professional photos more than you realize and they don’t have to take a lot of time or cost a lot of money. Perhaps you have a friend or family member that has an artistic side and they might be willing to spend a few hours doing a photoshoot with you in exchange for a delicious meal or maybe batter for some solid nutrition advice. Or you can call a local college and see if a photography student is willing to barter with you for your services, and there’s a good chance they’ll charge a lower fee than a full-time professional photographer.

But most importantly, now is the time to get in front of that camera because you never know when you’re going to need to submit a photo for a presentation or a professional event.

Planning for a photo shoot is easier than you think and here’s what you can do:

📸 Start collecting photos of other people doing things that you’d like to see yourself doing in photos and save them to a document or Pinterest board

📸 Make note of the kind of outfits you’d like to see yourself in. Solid bold colors look the best in headshots but don’t be afraid to wear something that lets your personality shine through (hello animal prints)!

📸 Be sure to take some serious shots (think job interview), some smiley shots (think presentation announcement) and some shots of you cooking, dancing, exercising, eating or relaxing (think your life)!

📸 And most of all… have fun with this. You don’t have to be a celebrity to take stellar headshots.

And in a worst case scenario…you can always use them for social media posts or…for your holiday cards!
